Energy and Its Forms
CBSE Class 6 General Knowledge
Unit 4: Science & Technology
Lesson: Energy and Its Forms
📘 Study Module: Energy and Its Forms
1. Introduction
Energy is the ability to do work. All living and non-living activities require energy. From walking and reading to running machines, energy is needed everywhere in our daily life.
2. Meaning of Energy
Energy is the capacity to perform work or cause change. It exists in different forms and can be converted from one form to another.
3. Forms of Energy
Energy exists in various forms such as:
- Mechanical Energy
- Heat Energy
- Light Energy
- Sound Energy
- Electrical Energy
- Chemical Energy
Each form of energy is useful in different ways.
4. Mechanical Energy
Mechanical energy is the energy possessed by an object due to its motion or position. Moving vehicles and flowing water have mechanical energy.
5. Heat and Light Energy
Heat energy helps in warming objects and cooking food. Light energy helps us see objects and is mainly obtained from the Sun.
6. Sound and Electrical Energy
Sound energy is produced when objects vibrate. Electrical energy is widely used to operate electrical appliances such as fans, lights, and televisions.
7. Chemical Energy
Chemical energy is stored in substances like food, fuels, and batteries. It is released during chemical reactions.
8. Importance of Energy
Energy is essential for life and human activities. It helps in growth, movement, communication, and development. Proper use of energy is important for conservation.
