📘 Study Module: Classification
1. Introduction
Classification is an important part of logical reasoning. It helps students group objects, words, numbers, or figures based on common features. Classification develops observation, comparison, and thinking skills.
2. Meaning of Classification
Classification means grouping things that are similar and separating those that are different. In reasoning questions, students are asked to find the odd one out or group similar items together. Correct classification depends on identifying common properties.
3. Purpose of Classification
The purpose of classification is to test logical and analytical ability. It checks how well a student can identify similarities and differences. It also improves clarity of thinking.
4. Types of Classification
Classification questions can be of different types such as:
- Word classification
- Number classification
- Letter classification
- Object or figure classification
Each type follows a logical rule.

In word classification, words are grouped based on meaning, category, or use. One word that does not belong to the group is identified. Example: Apple, Mango, Banana, Carrot (Carrot is the odd one).
6. Number Classification
Number classification is based on number properties or patterns. Students must identify the number that does not follow the rule. Example: 2, 4, 6, 9 (9 is odd one).
7. Letter Classification
Letter classification is based on alphabetical order or patterns. Students look for similarities in letters. Example: A, E, I, O, B (B is odd one).
8. Object Classification
Object classification groups items based on their use, nature, or category. Example: Pen, Pencil, Eraser, Spoon (Spoon is odd one).
9. Importance of Classification
Classification improves logical reasoning. It helps students solve problems quickly. It is useful for school exams and competitive exams.
