Stage I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

• History of India and Indian National Movement
• Indian and World Geography (Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World)
• Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy
• Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics
• General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change
• General Science
Paper II – General Studies II (CSAT – Qualifying)
• Comprehension
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability
• Decision-making and problem-solving
• General mental ability
• Basic numeracy (Class X level)
• Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables)
Note: Paper II is qualifying in nature.
Stage II: Main Examination (Descriptive Type)
Paper I – Essay
• Essays on multiple topics related to social, economic, political, cultural, and philosophical themes
• One essay to be selected from given options
Paper II – General Studies I
• Indian Heritage and Culture
• History and Geography of the World and Society
• Assam-specific History, Culture, and Geography
Paper III – General Studies II
• Indian Constitution
• Governance, Social Justice, and International Relations
• Policies, Rights Issues, and Welfare Schemes
Paper IV – General Studies III

Paper VI – Optional Subject (Paper I)
Candidate must choose one optional subject from the list prescribed by APSC.
Paper VII – Optional Subject (Paper II)
Continuation of the selected optional subject syllabus.
Stage III: Interview / Personality Test
• Assessment of personality, leadership qualities, and suitability for public service
• Evaluation of mental alertness, judgment, integrity, and social awareness
• No fixed syllabus; based on overall personality and knowledge

• The Preliminary Examination is for screening purposes only
• Marks of the Main Examination and Interview determine final merit
• Knowledge of Assam’s socio-economic and cultural background is essential
• Answer writing skills are crucial for the Main Examination
